Höskuldur and I have been treating eachother and we've got swish clothes to wear tonight... pictures will follow :)
Þorrablot is a dinner/dance always in January/February and it is where Icelandic people eat very strange food:
Hákarl (putrfied shark)
Blóðmör (blood sausage/black pudding)
Súr Blóðmör, (Sour-preserved blood sausage [black pudding])
Hrútspungar(Sour-preserved ram's testicles)
Lundabaggi (lamb roll)
Súr Lundabaggi (Sour-preserved lamb roll)
Svinasulta (jellied ham)
Sviðasulta (jellied sheep's head)
Súr Sviðasulta (sour-preserved jellied sheep's head)
Harðfiskur (dried fish)
Hangikjöt (smoked lamb)
Súr Hvalur (sour-preserved whale blubber)
Apparently everything was preserved in the old days, because people did not have very much for the winter months.. so meat was preserved in whey or was left to rot to preserve it.
I quite like this food, my favourite is hangikjöt and the soured whale blubber, yum yum. and soured jellied sheeps head.
